After
considerable research, I chose the site for my final year project to be in Nahr
Ibrahim Valley- a 35 minute drive from Beirut. The first two months were
dedicated towards analysis of the site and better understanding of the
components of the site. The topography and the river are my main challenges;
how to insert my design and remain true to the nature. My site gave way to my
function. A therapy centre. Mental and physical healing are very important. The
main focus in a therapy centre is the play of light and shadow and the ambiance
which is created. My study cases included several international therapy
centres, Peter Zumthor’s Thermal Baths and the traditional roman bath.
Analysing my study cases helped me understand what makes a therapy centre- its
program functions and circulation. I have several attempts before reaching the
final massing.
Studio IX & X- Fall 2013 & Spring 2014
Lebanese American University/ Byblos Lebanon
The studio is supervised by Dr. Antoine Romanos, with the assistance of Tarek Zeidan.
The theme of the 2013-14 investigation was the "Extreme Site", each student picked an area with hard conditions, ( hard topography, social and political…). Started with data collection and followed by a site analysis, each student found a proper approach to tackle the site without harming the extreme in it.
